If someone said to you, in 1 year, you will be living and working in Costa Rica fulfilling a lifelong dream, would you believe them? I would have. This country that I have visited 3 times before is now my home. So if youre wondering how I did it, this is how. I spent a few hours each week all though this past summer looking online for jobs. "You've got to have a valid reason to go. You have to have money to live on. People will think you're throwing away an amazing job if you dont have one more amazing to go to!" This is what I thought. So I looked. And finally, for 4 months of looking, I came across a position on Craigslist-Costa Rica, had a phone interview and was offered a new full time job as the Creative Director at a marketing company in Escazu. What a dream right? Everyone I told my plans to expressed their excitement, support, happiness, jealousy, etc. every feeling you want to have from someone when you're doing something as risky as this. Risky. yes it is. exciting, sure! fun, no doubt. but risk....yes risk. Will the job be worth it? Will I make friends? Where will I live? Will I get robbed? Will it live up to the expectations I have in my head? I hope so. but thats all you can really do....be positive and live the life of a Tico.

So within 1 month, I accepted the job, packed my house, quit my job, changed my addresses on EVERYTHING (which is a lot more stuff than you think) canceled memberships all over the place, packed all my essencials into 4 suitcases and moved to this little pueblo I now call home. San Joaquin de Flores. I live with the same family I studied Spanish with 5 years ago. I will live with them until Christmas, go back to Dallas for the Holidays, and then move back to an apartment bringing my little dog Lola. As for now, this is the plan.

I have officially been living here for 10 days now. The first 4 of which I spent on a beach excursion with 2 of my wonderful friends who helped me move down here and were ready for a little adventure.
They requested 3 things, beaches, monkeys and dancing. I gave them all 3 and a little more ;)

We had an amazing time. Missing my friends so much right now. So now I live in this room:

yes. yes I do. in all its Green 8x8 foot glory, there it is. magnificent, no, livable, completely. Trust me, that fan is working its magic at this very moment.

With that said, tune in the to the further adventures of me. trust me, I wont take the time to write it unless its worth it.

Im considering an update in my living room. I got a little design inspiration and came up with the final color pallet in the last image. I think it might end up looking slightly nautical if not done properly. but still...adorable I think!

I love the mix of prints with these pillows. all so very different but chic perfection together.

I am loving this chandelier! so incredible....I think anyone with a craft bone could make it!

THIS amazing painting of a butterfly wing would painted on a big piece of plywood and leaned up against a wall. drawing in the black and white wall effect!

this is the amazing room inspiration. I love the combo of mustard, red, black and white, and muted tealy-blue. so loverly.

Costa Rican Wedding

I went to Costa Rica this past May and had the opportunity to shoot a wedding with the WONDERFUL and AMAZING Ale Sura of Ale Sura Photography in Costa Rica. This wedding was one of the biggest and nicest events Ive ever been to. It was even cooler to be able to shoot a wedding speaking ONLY spanish! I would say, "Ustedes quieren un photo? Si? Ok UNO, DOS, TRES!" It was the coolest experience. I wish I could do more locations out of the country! book me people! Ill give you a great deal ;) Let me know what you think of these!

Jamie, Jordan and Baxter are such a CUTE family! Jamie and I work together at TIGI and I just love her to death! I leaped at the chance to take Christmas pictures of them! Believe it or not, Baxter is just a puppy...and had the attitude to prove it! I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with my skills at getting a few decent shots of him! thanks for looking!

Last month, I blogged about an amazing bag designer named katie henry of Made By Hank who I found on Etsy! We decided to make a trade...hair products for a purse! pretty genius I'd say. the bag is in the mail and I cant wait to get it! she sent me some photos so I thought I'd blog....

I've decided to work on branding myself and my work better, hopefully in turn, generating more business. Consistency is key in advertising...the more consistent and well designed, the better recognizable my work will be! in turn, ive decided to start posting new headers on my blog displaying new fonts and and schemes. Im even thinking about branching out and getting a new blog with better design elements and BIGGER PHOTOS! let me know your opinions on these new headers...they'll probably change frequently ;)

My dad is 65!

My mom told my niece Claire that we were having a big party for Dadaw's birthday. She asked, "Are we having a bounce house?!" My mom laughed and said "of course not because its not your birthday!" After mom told dad about Claire's request for a bounce house, he asked, "Well how much is a bounce house?"

My baby nephew is officially 10 years old. double digits. in advertising, he's called a Tween. I can't get over it. It seems like just yesterday he was so little and soft with the sweetest calm demeanor. As a baby he never cried, just a little whimper here and there. He had the biggest chubby cheeks you could just kiss on everyday. He is still the sweetest boy. Probably too sweet for his own good and definitely a romantic. I guess that's enough embarrassment. the first picture is Garrett 2 Easters ago. they grow up so fast!

I work for a hair company and you can tell. ah the perks are great. Kevin at Vista Ridge sure knows his stuff. In fact, my hair was a lot brighter than this but I was definitely not cool enough to pull it off. we toned it down a bit and ended up with this. pretty hot I think ;) and the sexy cut was by my sweet friend Amy. its amazing what a little cut and color can do for the self esteem. over all, I feel like one sassy gal :)

if you don't know about etsy at this point, you're an idiot. I stumbled across my new FAVORITE store on etsy today. made by hank is a line of gorgeous bags, clutches, zipper pouches etc. that are so cute it makes my face hurt. Each bag is handmade by Katie Henry in Philadelphia. She is so talented. I want them all I'm having a terrible time deciding which one. I am most impressed by her ability to freehand sew images and her logo! look at the camera bag at the bottom...I'm blown away! fall in love like me...and buy a bunch of them!

Lola is becoming one monster of a puppy. since my first post about my baby girl, she's grown double her size. She's now a bouncing 4 lbs. In other news, she's been learning how to ring the bell to go outside. this morning was the first time it worked. She knew she had done something right because I squealed a little more than normal. Lola followed suite. I can't get enough of her.

I've decided to get a puppy. This might seem a bit sudden to some but I've actually wanted one for quite a while. After my last post and studying the sweet face of Roxy, I decided that once Anna and Roxy don't live with me anymore, I will definitely want a dog of my own. There are SO many types of dogs. one discovery I made is that there are no such things as muts anymore...they're now called "Designer Dogs." Hysterical. Pure breeds are no longer the rage...everyone wants Yorkiepoos and Labradoodles. I guess its pretty smart though to take 2 incredibly cute dogs, put them together and make even cuter ones. Puppies that look like puppies forever. I guess the humans quest for eternal youth has even gone to the dogs. Bah!

I've spent some time this past weekend googling puppies, trying to find the perfect dog for me. These are my requirements:

Soft

small (because I live in an apartment)

not yippy (this is a big one)

a bit lazy

does dishes and cleans my room

ok so the last one might not be possible. But believe me, I'm going to give it a shot. I've looked at Shorkies (shih tzu-yorkie mix) Morkies (Maltese-yorkie mix) Lhasa-shih tzu mix (which I don't know the cute combo name of) and now I'm looking at Westies. I'm supposed to go look at a few tonight. Should be good. Hopefully they won't be in a cute basket like the last place I went. Man, people really set you up for disappointment with a basket full of puppies. It's not like a basket of mini-muffins, you can't have them all.

this incredible tree...yes its just ONE tree, is called the Banyan Tree. It's branches grow out, into the ground and grow new roots so all the trunks and branches connect. there is one main trunk in the middle. God sure does make amazing things!

this couple kills me. even without prompting, they're dripping with style. While just sitting in front of Bubba Gumps, they look like models. who looks like this? you have to love them.

did anyone else know that Maui had its own Brewery? Bikini Blonde... I had to take a shot of this wonderfully designed can. great fonts, clean lines, not beer like at all but it very its a hot little design...and you know how I feel about great design! 5 stars for sure.

I went on a snorkeling excursion tuesday morning with this guy...Bobby! captain of the Sea Shark. a great little rafting trip where we snorkeled the reefs of Lanai and Lahina and swam with giant sea turtles. we also ran into a pack of 30 dolphins. amazing. check this out.

these are spinner dolphins! they jump up in the air and spin! I can't believe I actually caught them in the air.

We went out on the black rocks on Kanaapali beach on Friday morning to take some oh-so sexy pictures of the bride to be. These were such a blast and Erin taught me SO much. I obviously can't brag about her enough. I'm kinda in love.

to start out here's a couple of shots of Josie, little sister to one the other bridesmaids. she was just too cute and what a hot bod! she's going to be a major heartbreaker in college. Thanks for indulging me Josie!

Right now, I am staring at my still swollen ankles that I have propped up on the coffee table after 3 very long flights back from Maui. I was Maid of Honor in the wedding of Brooke Miracle and Ben Rood. What an amazing experience it was! She was a gorgeous bride. Check out Erin Kelley's blog to look at photos from the ceremony and reception. Erin has quickly moved to the top of my list of inspiring photographers. Her work is absolutely beautiful. Get ready to be impressed.

Hello all. For anyone who doesnt know me, I am Kasey Spain. Bed Head® Graphic Designer by day, Photographer by any other time. Here's a bit about me:

I love my family and incredible friends, traveling, my Mac, great red wine, mexican food, Central Market, Ben Harper, being brave, and laughing.

I would put a list of things I hate, but life is full of complainers...no need for you to read about mine.
